A Week of Workouts (Sorta)

This past week was our first week back from vacation and trying to get back in the swing of things was difficult. It ended well though! I missed my “long” run of 5 miles last week and was nervous about actually being able to do it this week with not much training. I don’t think I have ran five miles straight since the half marathon in November. Crazy! It went surprisingly well considering I ran it on the treadmill and increased the speed each mile. There was definitely some mental games going on between mile three and five to get me to the end. I felt so good and proud of myself afterwards. I feel like I could have talked myself out of continuing so it was nice to be mentally strong enough to push through. Even though it was hard to get to five I felt like I could have kept going if I had to.

Monday: Hiked 5 miles
Tuesday: off
Wednesday: Ran 2 miles at the gym
Thursday: off
Friday: Ran 3 miles and then an hour long personal training session (TRX, rowing, squats, etc) (Mental note: do NOT run three miles as a warm up before a personal training session. Cramp city!)
Saturday: Elliptical, rowing, lots of foam rolling
Sunday: Ran 5 miles

Oh, hello there…

Well here I am, nearly 8 months since my last post…

I’ve signed up for two more races! I needed some motivation after a difficult winter of running and family stuff. I realized how difficult it is to run in the winter with a toddler who requires watching and little daylight outside of working hours. I have been running off and on now for the past few months and officially started a new training plan to run the Giant’s Race Half Marathon on September 7th. I also somehow miraculously was chosen in the lottery to run the SF Nike Women’s Half Marathon in October. Looks like I have to get running!

I’m still alive and running!

I know it has been forever since I last updated but life has been pretty busy. I am going to attempt to get back into writing and keeping up with my workouts. To recap the last month or so, we ran the half marathon after doing less training than was planned. We survived and are now looking at the Napa Valley Marathon. While the half marathon was pretty miserable there were some good parts. A 5k record! A 10k record! Woohoo! Also, the longest distance either of us had run! We took a little time off afterwards but have run three times in the past week. I have actually been going to yoga which is amazing. I think it is really important to go to yoga while running because when I’m not I get way too stiff in my hamstrings and back. It feels pretty miserable since I am used to feeling pretty stretchy. I guess that is all for now. Here’s hoping training and writing are doable during this busy holiday season!

Weekly RUNdown: Week 12

It has been difficult to get mid-week runs in due to a new job for Geoff. Both of us would love to get a treadmill and have been discussing the idea pretty regularly. I think it would help both of us a lot, especially in the coming months when it is a little too dark to run outside during our normal running hours. Our Honey Badger 10k is next weekend and I am dreading it because I don’t feel prepared but hopefully it will be fun!
